How to open it
- Press the mindmap button (the branching icon) at the right end of the editor toolbar to open its menu, then choose View as mindmap. The map is drawn in place of the document.
- To go back, press Back to document above the map. Edit the document and reopen the map, and it redraws from the new structure.
What maps to what
- The document title becomes the root capsule. An empty title shows as Untitled.
- Headings 1 to 4 become branches at matching depths: H1 right under the root, H2 under that, and so on.
- List items (bullet, ordered, checklist) hang under the nearest heading above, one level deeper per indent.
- A document with no headings or lists is drawn from the openings of its paragraphs. Body paragraphs themselves stay out of the map: it is a tool for seeing structure.
Working the view
- The map is read-only: a place to inspect the skeleton of your writing, not to edit nodes. To change it, go back and edit the document.
- The map lays itself out and fits the screen automatically, refitting when the window resizes.
- Press Export PNG to download the map as an image, ready for slides or sharing.
Importing a mindmap
- Press Import mindmap, in the toolbar's mindmap menu or on the map screen, and pick a FreeMind .mm file or a .json exported from a mindmap tool.
- Conversion mirrors the view: the map's root becomes an H1, first-level branches become H2s, and deeper branches become indented bullet lists.
- Nothing is erased: the converted structure is appended to the end of the document, and the map view opens so you can check the result. If it is not what you wanted, go back and undo once.
